Campaign to Promote Hermes Property Recording
Burglars, handlers, and robbers beware because the Police have new equipment in their arsenal to make life easier for them and harder for criminals.
HERMES is a new piece of equipment that Bath & North East Somerset Police have invested in, to help tackle the stolen goods market more effectively.
The equipment is linked to the Immobilise database. Immobilise can be used by members of the public to register their possessions and all registered items and ownership details are viewable to the Police on the National Mobile Property Register (NMPR. We will be attending events and engaging with our communities to best utilise this great resource. We will be monitoring the results closely as well as the impact on our intelligence gathering, recovery of stolen goods and detection of crime.
Our campaign will promote the benefits of property registration, attend events across Bath & North East Somerset and most importantly talk to our communities and victims of crime every day to spread the message as widely as possible.
Hermes…What is it and what are the benefits?
Hermes is a small laptop computer and handheld scanner which is a simple and fast way to register large volumes of any personal property with a barcode or unique reference number, e.g. laptops, televisions, bikes and mobile telephones. Registering your property with this system will set you up an account on the Immobilise database that you can add to or amend at your convenience. In turn we will have the opportunity to reunite more victims with their stolen property and to prosecute offenders.
