Naomi Mackrill, a third year chemistry student, has been named as one of eight Mayor of Bath’s Citizen of the Year 2011.
The 22-year-old was nominated by Anna Boneham, Coordinator of the Volunteer Centre in the Students’ Union, for her work with the university Guides and Scouts group, Student Community Action group and Rag.
Eight people have shared this year’s title because of the high standard of entries for the civic accolade. Mayor Councillor Shaun McGall said he could not choose between the eight finalists, so had decided to honour them all.
Naomi said: “I am chuffed to bits to have been chosen. My mother is very proud of me, and so are the rest of my family.”
Anna Boneham said: “It is a testament to Naomi’s volunteer work that someone as young as herself is amongst the eight winners of this community award. Naomi is an excellent role model for the University and has dedicated a great number of hours towards her numerous volunteer roles within the local community.”
Naomi was presented with a Bath Glass Aqua bowl and certificate by The Mayor of Bath, Shaun McGall, at a ceremony at the Guildhall.
