
Southdown
Southdown is in the south west of Bath and is a vibrant lively community. There are 2 pubs; The White Horse pub is at the bottom of the Hollow (strictly speaking in Westmoreland ward) and the Rising Sun is on Lyemore Avenue
It has 4 churches, which are Anglican - Mount Road, Evangelical Englishcombe Lane, Catholic- Sladebrook Road and the Methodist - The Hollow.
There are a number of open spaces; Hillcrest Drive field, Rosewarn Close field, The Roundhill and The Brickfields (strictly speaking in Westmoland).
There are also a range of shops. Mount Road parade contains the Cooperative, two takeaways (fish and Chips and an Indian) , a general convenience store, a hardware shop, a cafe and an off licence.
In addition there is a general convenience store in Southdown road, bottom of the Hollow and Englishcombe Lane
Southdown has stunning views as it looks down over the city of Bath.
There are a range of houses including terraced and semi-detached houses.
There are some students living there as well as many families and elderly residents.
Getting around
The number 10 bus runs every 15 minutes during the day from Southdown to the city centre, and then every 20 minutes at night. It takes just over 15 minutes on the bus depending on what time of day you travel.
There is an excellent number 5 service which covers the Whiteway part of Southdown, and the 18 from Kingsway covers part of Southdown, as well as the 12 that covers the Hollow. In addition the 20 is a direct link to university of Bath. There is not a direct link to Bath Spa University.
The number 10 runs through Oldfield Park, so you can jump off, and jump onto the SPA1 for Bath Spa University or the 18 to the University of Bath. You can also get the U18 from the city centre to the University of Bath.
