Widcombe

photo of Widcombe High StreetWidcombe is a thriving community with excellent facilities and services on the southeastern fringes of Bath city centre. It boasts excellent eating and shopping, beautiful walks and spectacular scenery and is therefore very popular to live especially for couples, students and families. It sits on the Kennet and Avon canal and offers a community feel whilst not being to far from the city centre.

The area is reasonably priced, and contains mainly terraced and semi-detached properties for multiple occupancy.

It has all the amenities to meet your needs such as a GP surgery, dentist and a launderette as well as a niche shopping experience and lovely places to eat and drink. There are plenty of green spaces and an art gallery and a café.

Student Comment:

"Widcombe is a fantastic place to live. Transport links are good - the fit can walk to the University of Bath campus up Widcombe Hill, and the lazy can simply walk into the town centre (5 mins) and get a blue or an orange bus. There are many independent and quirky shops on Widcombe Parade. I love Widcombe!"

Getting around

The U10 service runs (term time only) through Widcombe, and up to the University of Bath, every half an hour. The service does not run in the evenings.

The 20 A/C bus runs an hourly service to and from the University of Bath.

The area is a 5-10 minute walk from Bath Spa train station and the city centre where the 18 runs to the University of Bath and SPA1/2 run to Bath Spa University. The U18 bus service to the University of Bath can also be picked up from the city centre.

For more information about bus services or to see timetables see the links to First Bus and Uni Connect websites on the right hand side of the ‘Living in Bath’ Page.

It is possible to walk or cycle to the University of Bath campus from Widcombe via Widcombe Hill, and many do, although it is up a steep hill so please be careful when cycling down the Hill, as there have been accidents where cyclists have been going too fast.
